My Dance Experience

First Position

I took my first ballet class when I was five years old and immediately fell in love. I was soon practicing my graceful ballet run wherever I went and perfecting my changements in grocery store aisles. I loved dancing so much that I started to explore other styles, such as jazz and lyrical, when I was in fourth grade. In seventh grade, I switched to a different studio where I began to learn tap and achieved my dream of getting my first pair of pointe shoes.

Competition Days

My sophomore year, I decided to try out for my studio’s dance team. I found myself in a supportive community with a shared love of dance. I felt encouraged to try new styles and competed in tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, hip hop, poms, and musical theatre. I competed for five years and had many great experiences throughout that time such as first place overalls, taking class from an original Broadway cast member of Hamilton, and performing on the Disney Springs stage in Orlando.

Teaching

I wanted to share my love of dance with the next generation, so when my studio director offered me a position to teach four years ago, I quickly accepted. I have taught dancers ranging from ages two to fourteen. I teach ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, poms, lyrical, and musical theatre. I am also going into my second year as a dance team coach, getting to choreograph solos, duets, and group dances. While I don’t get to take class and perform as much as I used to, I love seeing my students shine on stage.
